Niger Tornadoes

Niger Tornadoes Football Club has been one of Nigeria’s popular and professional league team which plays in the top division of the Nigeria Professional Football League. The Minna based club was founded in the year 1977 and has Bako Kontagora as their home stadium.


The club has made some many achievements in the game of football in Nigeria, in the year 2005, the club nearly went into relegation but narrowly escape that by three points which secured them a place in Nigeria Premier League (lower half division).

The club continued to strife for a better recognition but because of difficulties in finances, their performance was lower than unexpected with the players complaining of unpaid salaries, bonuses and more. 


Due to the poor management of the club which has led to nothing but unwillingness from the players and low performances from them as well, the management of the team was sacked just after the player's third performance at the 2008 -2009 football season.

The football team performed better than that after the change in management, in the year 2012, the team was relegated from Nigeria’s Premier League with the main reason being on goal difference which was based on the scores of 38 goals in 36 games. That year, the football club produced the premier league top soccer by name Sibi Gwar who scored 13 goals out of the 38 goals of that season.

Year, after year the football club performance was gaining them promotions and in the year 2015, they again won a promotion which has been one of their uttermost desire as a football club which is to become the champion of the Nigeria National League, which they won.

Some of the football club achievements include the Nigerian FA Cup in the year 2000, they also played in the National Second Division both only in 1996 and 2015. They have also made appearances in CAF competitions such as 2001 CAF Cup Winners' Cup (reached quarter-finals), and 2010 WAFU Club Championship which they reached the quarter-finals also.
